Hi, my name is Kristin. I live in New York's beautiful Hudson Valley with my husband, Dave, and our three boys. Despite some earlier serious gardening, our homesteading journey truly began in 2010 with our first chickens, or, as I like to call them, the "gateway animal". We now raise a small number of cows, pigs, and guinea fowl in addition to more extensive fruit and veggie crops. 

I read cookbooks and food magazines like novels. I love to cook, bake, and experiment in the kitchen. A few years ago, after I made my first batch of caramel and found it not quite what I was looking for, I decided to play around. It took a few tries to get it to match what I had imagined the perfect caramel to be, but when I did...WOW.

Caramel sauce became my signature gift and was often requested by friends and family. After I gave some to the wonderful farmer whose CSA* I am a member of, he suggested I sell it at the farm. It took a year of planning, research, and a lot of hard work to get The Ardent Homesteader off the ground; but with encouragement from my friends, family, Guy & Nadine at Blooming Hill Farm and Tom & Denise at North Plank Road Tavern, Cara-Sel was born. Click here to discover where you can find it and learn what all the fuss is about.
